Hilton Hotel Pithi and Mandvo: Amin+Kathi Celebrates!

Like 2009, we started our 2010 season with another Ismaili wedding. Amin and Khati celebrated their individual Pithi and Mandvo ceremonies at the Hilton Hotel in Burnaby. This couple, who are now based in Toronto, had friends and family come from all over North America and Europe to revel in the festivities of such a happy occasion that marks the union of two people who have found home in each other. On April 2nd, we came to document the gorgeous cultural traditions of Ismaili weddings.

First up was Amin's Pithi ceremony. We've never photographed a full Pithi celebration before so this has been such a fun experience to capture and to witness!

And it was messy!

... but hilarious!

In contrast, Khati spent 4 hours getting mehndi carefully and artistically done.

Then it was Khati's turn with the Mandvo ceremony.

Not quite as messy...

but meaningful, nonetheless!

Open Casting Call for The Stylish Tot

As some of you may already know, I have started another blog that is a little bit of a departure from photography although still somewhat related. I'm posting on this blog to make an announcement that TheStylishTot.com is holding an open casting call for kids to appear in our editorial shoot of a luxury brand to feature their Spring/Summer 2010 collection.

The deets:
WHO: The casting call is open to kids ages 4 to 8 years. We are searching for one boy and one girl.
WHAT: Brand will only be disclosed to selected candidates. It is an international luxe brand well known for their sporty look.
WHEN: The deadline for submissions is 4pm on April 14, 2010. The shoot is scheduled at 4pm on April 18, 2010. The session can last anywhere from 1 hour to 2 hours.
WHERE: The shoot will be in the Vancouver Lower Mainland so you and your kid must be available in the Greater Vancouver Area.
HOW: Please send me your kids info at gracci@thestylishtot.com, put CASTING CALL on the subject line. Kindly send me a recent photo (headshot would be best) of your child.

Please note that there is no monetary compensation for this gig. However, the session fee is obviously waived and 5 images from the shoot in hi-resolution JPEG copy, compliments of Pelaez Photography and The Stylish Tot.
