You're probably wondering where we've gone in the last month! Oh, we're right here. The holidays just reminded us of how much we value our family and we just wanted to spend a lot more quality time with our daughter, each other and our family. However we still have the same passion for weddings and we're excited about the weddings we'll be covering this year.

We also have something cooking up on the side. It's going to be something more than photography but still something that interests us, especially Mikka and me (Gracci). Watch out for that.

We also would like to thank all of you who left a comment on our blog. We've made the donation to the Vancouver Food Bank. Right now, Haiti needs our help! You can donate through UNICEF or World Vision.

Here are a few images from another session we did in November last year for employees of Travel Underwriters and their families. All proceeds went to the Make-A-Wish Foundation! We helped send a kid to Disney!

Rainy Vancouver Engagement: Amin+Khati

It was THE wettest engagement session we've done yet. From the days leading up to it up until the night before, there were much discussion about our options on how to shoot the session and keep dry or whether we should reschedule or not. But with Amin and Khati being based in Toronto, the option to reschedule was hard to even consider.

Amin and Khati had valid concerns about how their photos would turn out considering the forecast of 100% P.O.P. with almost 30mm of rain expected. So, we talked them through their concerns and asked them to just focus on the very reason we're doing these engagement portraits - THEM. We asked them to just live in the moment, focus on each other and look forward to their wedding in April 2010.

When we met them at Granville Island to start the session, we were glad to hear that they've decided to just let go and just go with it. And did they really get into it! They actually enjoyed the weather and, dare I say, they enjoyed the experience. In fact, the rain turned out to be a bonus when what Khati really wanted are photos that reflect the environment where she grew up in - Granville Island in the rain!

Lovely Fall Brock House Wedding: Ryan+Trisna Just Married!

On the morning of our last wedding of the season, we woke up to grey skies heavy with impending rain. Despite the dull color above, the grounds surrounding the historic Brock House Restaurant was alive with autumn colors. And such was the backdrop of Ryan and Trisna's wedding, a true Vancouver fall wedding. It was a lovely intimate affair with the couple's closest friends and family.

I love the dreamy quality of this image. No we didn't use a Holga or a Lomo to capture this shot, it was just shot through the clear tarp that covered the ceremony area. Just added a bit of vintage toning.

Engaged in Vancouver: Amin+Khati Sneak Peek!

Amin and Khati are both based in Toronto but will get married in Vancouver next year! They came to visit Vancouver this past week where we did their engagement session on the last day of a month-long deluge of rain characteristic of fall weather. They are quite anxious to see a teaser from the session as they were concerned about taking their photos done on a wet day.

Elegant UBC Boathouse Wedding: Sonny+Christina Just Married

Sonny and Christina had a jam-packed schedule on their big day. It was indeed a celebration on many levels. It was a celebration of life and of love. It is even more meaningful when that love is celebrated many times over in different cultural traditions, religious backgrounds and amidst family and friends. And that's exactly how this day was. Our senses were on overdrive from the color, the expressions, the taste and the emotion that we hope we were able to capture.

Here are a few of our favorites throughout the day!

We were kept indoors as it was a very, very wet morning but the white walls of the Akali Singh Sikh Temple make for a very clean background which makes the red stand out!

I love the vibrant colors Christina chose for the wedding, deep purple, burgundy and chartreuse! Garlands Florist did an awesome job with these flowers.

Simple, yet beautiful Jim Hjelm dress.

After hours and hours of non-stop downpour, the sun eventually came out for a bit during the prep before the Catholic Ceremony which provided us with this cool rainbow background for the ring shots... No, our camera is not that dirty, it's the window at the hotel...

We headed over to Sonny's dad's house for a quick ceremony with Sonny's aunts. These were shot at their backyard which we managed to shoot for a few minutes before we totally lost any light.

I LOVE what Debut Event Design, Inc. did to transform the John MS Lecky UBC Boathouse into an elegant space.

We've been shooting weddings after weddings with cakes from Original Cupcakes. And you can see why.

The rain clouds made for a great dramatic sky that night! These photos were taken around 10pm that night.

Pacific Palisades Wedding: Dwight+Janis Just Married!

Dwight and Janis came to us after seeing our work and how we work at Ryan and Vanessa's wedding a year ago. Dwight works in the film industry so it's a compliment for us when they booked us. Their wedding was filled with beauty and love! It was a crisp autumn day and there was a buzz of excitement, happiness, nervousness and great anticipation as the girls prepared at a Penthouse suite at Pacific Palisades Hotel. Dwight got his "bad self" ready with the guys at their newly bought condo a few blocks away. Everything was on time as the girls diligently checked their watches and the schedule and before they know it, they had to make their way to the Mambo Ballroom for the ceremony. Here are some of our favorite shots throughout the day.

Ryan and Trisna are two very private individual. At first, they requested that their images not to be published on the blog, the website or in print and we're always more than happy to respect our dear clients' wishes. We just photographed their wedding (our last one of the year, huzzah!) and we were delighted to hear that they are giving us their blessing to share a few of their images on our blog!

Here are a few of our favorites from the engagement session that we shot last August at the Lynn Canyon park in Vancouver. We adore these two so much that we did not notice that we were already shooting in almost total darkness by the time we finished at the bottom of the canyon and decided to hike back up top. In a few weeks, we'll also share images from their wedding at the Brock House in Vancouver!

While we still have a couple of weddings to blog, we've also been doing some family portraits on the side. These portraits are part of this year's effort to help out the Make-a-Wish Foundation through the Travel Underwriters Group in Richmond, BC.

We start out this year's project with the Benoit Family! They're super cute and Noemie and Tamara are both bundles of energy. We had to be quick on our feet as they were constantly moving and showing us their moves and poses! But one thing is for certain, this family is just full of love and it was wonderful to see how the two girls just dote on each other! Take a look!

Downtown Vancouver Celebration: Jason+Andree Just Married

Just like li'l sister, Gigi, Andree had a special celebration of her and Jason's wedding especially for their friends and family based in the beautiful west coast. Their actual wedding was in the picturesque town of St. Andrew's in New Brunswick. For their Vancouver reception, we opted for more contemporary portraits at a setting where Andree felt right at "home". You see, Andree maintains a food blog called U Gonna Eat That? and she's Metro Calgary's regular food columnist, Urban Foodie, so it was just fitting that we create portraits at one of Vancouver's hip restaurant off of Gastown's Blood Alley, the Salt Tasting Room.

One request was to get a photo with the meats and we were just more than happy to oblige.

We also wanted to do something dramatic.

Where else should we do the bride's portriat but in front of the awesome menu board!

Since we're already there, we took more portraits along Blood Alley and it's surrounding areas.

And then we got held up for a bit by a gypsy who wanted to read Andree's fortune. While Andree was most certainly entertained (note her expression), Jason looked skeptic.

Then, it was off to the Victoria Chinese Restaurant for the tea ceremony and the reception.

Sun Sui Wah Wedding: Jay+Kim Just Married!

This wedding is reminiscent of the very first wedding we "unofficially" photographed. At the time, we were one of the many guests who came to our friend's Vietnamese-Filipino wedding with a digital SLR and just wanting to take really nice photos for our friend. Now, we are once again, taking "nice" pictures of another awesome Vietnamese-Filipino couple and we feel so right at home. Of course, it helps that Kim and Jay made it easy for us to work with them. Outdoor weddings in Vancouver always come with Plan B - What If It Rains? With Alex and Liana's wedding, a Plan C had to be set in motion at the eleventh hour - What If There's a Heat Wave? What was planned out to be a wedding under the glorious rays of the summer sun on the fairways of Swan-e-Set Bay Resort and Country Club turned into an indoor celebration in order to keep the wedding party and guests cool during the blistering heat wave that hit Vancouver during the BC Day long weekend. The wedding turned out to be no less beautiful with the love permeating within Swan-e-set's gorgeous interiors.

The gorgeous dress! Love the elaborate ruching and pleating, understated but elegant!

Engaged in Coal Harbour: Sunny+Christina

I seriously thought about canceling Sunny and Christina's engagement session when I woke up to a wet morning a month ago. By the time we met them that afternoon, I was so thrilled to see the cloud cover on the North Shore that helped make for dramatic images. But aside from the gorgeous background, we had great fun with these two and I know we'll enjoy spending more time with them at their wedding next month!

UBC Boathouse Wedding: Ayaz + Debbie Just Married!

We always make it a point to meet with both the bride AND groom during consultations with prospective clients. When Debbie came to meet with us for the very first time, she had her friends with her, instead. Ayaz had already relocated to Edmonton, therefore, not getting an opportunity to meet us before deciding to book. Nonetheless, they booked us not long after that first meeting.

When Ayaz visited Vancouver in the fall, they made it a point that we get a chance to get to know the groom. I was worried. For us, it's important that we click with the client. If we're going to be spending the entire day with you, we want to make sure that a good solid relationship is built between us. Ayaz, at that point, was already "stuck" with us, so to speak. However, despite my apprehensions of whether Ayaz will like us or not, it was all for naught since we clicked right away. Right there and then, I knew that working with them would be a breeze. Just check out their engagement session!

Debbie's dress from Jai Bridals

The wedding rings were designed by Ayaz, made at Shamins. Debbie's jewelry was designed by the bridesman, Larry Ho, an award winning jewelry designer. Larry was the one who referred Debbie and Ayaz to us after he met us at Chris and Laura-Jane's wedding, and for that, we are grateful!

The ceremony at the John MS Lecky (UBC Boathouse) was wonderful. Good thing the ceremony was held indoors, out of the sun!

Ayaz looked dashing in his Hugo Boss suit (below, left). Although, he looked like he just step out of pages of GQ, the groomsmen didn't think that the portrait represent him well. Instead, we did another portrait that is truly Ayaz, tongue out and all (below, right).

Debbie's hair piece consisted of an antique brooch placed on a silk magnolia flower, customized and made by Cassie Cleary from Hell Bound Hair in Edmonton, AB.

First dress change - the red Qi Pao, for the tea ceremony.

Second dress change - the wedding saree. Ayaz is Ismaili so some of the Ismaili cultural wedding traditions were done at the reception, held at the Delta Vancouver Airport.

Towards the end of the night, Debbie changed her dress for the last time, into Ayaz's mom's vintage wedding dress! And can you believe that not one stitch was touched in the dress? It fit Debbie as if it was made for her. I wish we were able to shoot some of the earlier portraits with her in the funky vintage dress!

Congratulations, Ayaz and Debbie! We're glad to have been a part of your day! We look forward to seeing you at Johnny and Diana's wedding next year!

Diamond Alumni Centre Wedding: Patrick+Amy Just Married!

We were really looking forward to Amy and Patrick's wedding at the SFU Diamond Alumni Centre. You see, Amy and Patrick are both from Toronto and have only recently settled in Vancouver and have easily adapted to the West Coast lifestyle. For their wedding, what they wanted the most is to showcase the natural beauty of British Columbia and the Diamond Alumni Centre, nestled in the heart of Burnaby Mountain was the perfect venue. While the view outside is one of the best BC has to offer, Patrick and Amy made sure to bring a lot of the natural elements inside DAC and complete the look of the place. The best part about it is the fact that they were all natural fruits of Amy and Patrick's (and friends and family's) labour and love. It was indeed inspiring to see it all come together.

Summer Wedding at Hycroft: Hao+Karen Just Married!

Four weeks ago, we shot the lovely summer wedding of Hao and Karen at Hycroft, the gorgeous Edwardian mansion which serves as the house of The University Women's Club, situated at the beautiful Shaughnessy neighborhood in Vancouver. While Hao and Karen have settled into married life in Massachusetts, USA, they decided to still have the beauty of Vancouver serve as the backdrop for their wedding. We're glad they did and we were there to preserve the beauty of their day.

Everything about Hycroft is just exquisite. Every nook and cranny is perfect and we could photograph there the entire day!

I loved Karen's shoes from J. Crew! Michelle Obama is not the only one who can look good in J. Crew, brides can too!

Engaged in Vancouver: Jay and Kim

Jay and Kim is yet another couple who was referred to us by a past bride and groom, Garry and Minette. Jay was one of Garry's groomsmen and I believe Garry is also going to be in the bridal party when Jay marries Kim in a few weeks!

I remember it being a hot afternoon when we did this engagement session in early July. Little did we know that the heat wave was going to continue for quite a while and we hope that we'll continue to enjoy the summer weather until late September! Even though it was quite uncomfortable in the heat, it never showed on Jay and Kim's images. Even Jay, who was quite nervous, did really well! No signs of the jitters in a few of our favorites from that fun afternoon.

Engaged at Vancouver Airport: Dwight+Janis

We've photographed a couple of our brides and grooms at YVR or Vancouver Airport. We shot a past engagement session of Louis and Jennifer at YVR since they were both flight attendants and the airport and planes have been a part of their love story. We took a few portraits of Jason and Jan at the same airport where Jason works at Vancouver Airport Authority's Marketing Department. This time, we're sharing a few images of Dwight and Janis, who got engaged at Vancouver Airport.

Dwight and Janis were no stranger to us when they first came in for a consult. Dwight was one of the groomsmen at Ryan and Vanessa's lovely wedding last year at Centennial Beach in Tsawassen. I'm sure it will be as gorgeous an event at Pacific Palisades Hotel this fall.

Janis just flew in from a trip to South America and Dwight was ready to go down on bended knee as soon as Janis picked up her luggage at the baggage claim at the domestic airport.

Can we ever post something with no mention of Vancouver weather? I think not... :)

It's been absolutely gorgeous and uncharacteristically dry in Vancouver lately that I'm sure every weekend, some bride in the Lower Mainland is offering something up to the rain gods to ensure that the jinx won't fall on their wedding day. A week before Ryan and Andrea's wedding, she sent me an e-mail in the wee hours of the morning worrying about the 90% chance of rain forecast for her June 28th wedding. Whatever prayer she offered to turn the weather forecast in her favor really worked.

We spent that glorious day photographing Ryan and Andrea at Dr. Sun Yat Sen Gardens, the new Vancouver Convention Centre and the beautiful Terminal City Club!

Andrea getting made up by Ai Nagasawa, who've made some of our past brides (Janine and Cristina) into gorgeous, blushing brides!

It's these times I wish I was a videographer. Kristian sang his whole speech to the tune of "The Gambler" which had the room in stitches and singing along to the chorus...

I was really looking forward to the live music from this wedding. Fabulous set from the funky band, The Deep End, with Kristian on trumpet.

And it's FAF's turn. Ryan, who plays the trumpet, got the day off. Nonetheless, the band rocked the night away!

Anyone who's been to Terminal City Club would know of it's beautiful stained glass dome in the middle of the lobby. We thought we'd get a photo with it.

Congrats, Ryan and Andrea! Thanks for making us a part of your day. You know I'm extremely jealous of your honeymoon in France! :)
